Titanium dioxide is used mainly to make toothpaste appear bright white, not to improve how it cleans. Although absorption is generally low, fine particles may be taken up by the body and accumulate over time. Studies have raised concerns about potential effects on DNA, while animal research involving titanium-dioxide nanoparticles has also reported inflammation, impaired insulin signalling and disrupted glucose regulation. Although these findings have not been confirmed in humans, we prefer to avoid an unnecessary ingredient when credible safety questions remain.
